German cops bust international drug ring in Lubeck

Police in the coastal town of Lübeck said on Wednesday they had bust an international drug ring bringing several million euros worth of cocaine and cannabis via the Mediterranean on sailing yachts to Germany.

Nineteen suspects have been accused of bringing cocaine from South America and cannabis from Morocco through Spain and Portugal to Germany, a Lübeck police spokesman said on Wednesday.

Die Welt newspaper reported that the organization also ran seven secret marijuana plantations across northern Germany – in Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and Schleswig-Holstein – and one on the Baltic island of Fehmarn. “They were growing around 2,000 plants,” the spokesman said.

Lubeck Marathon today!

Lubeck den 21.10.2012

To-day Lubeck had its Marathon and I did arrive to take a few snaps .The day started out with a bit of sunshine but after two hours it started to get overcast, however the rain stayed away. I did not manage to get a photo of the overall winner but it doesn’t matter this kind of race is all about the individuals and their determination to do their best and fair play to all they did just that! Great show Lubeck!

lubeck at night

Ireland looses 4-0 and I’m walking back to my apartment, another bad day!

But the beauty of Lubeck makes up for it !

Here in northern Germany we are in election mode and the local politicians are out and about I haven’t met anyone and nobody has called to the door. All I can surmise is that the election is fought on the local radio and some public meetings but the three main parties are all spouting the same and there is no real difference in policy .The all present themselves in been experts in business and industry .Apparently “The left “got into power the last time as a junior partners but they do not have seem to have any major effect and consequently are suffering at the polls. There is another colourful party called the pirates and they seem to be growing in popularity. On one of their posters I see their call for an end to backroom deals and call for more openness in politics ..I would vote for them if I could vote!!!

Billboards are all around the place (see photos) and this one from the CUD (Biggest party in Government) The CDU politician says to German children

Text says “For your future without debts”

Of course Irish children will be drowning in Deutsche Bank’s debts for the next two generations because these lying politicians haven’t the balls to tell the German people that they have in effect gambled away all of their savings and have managed to get the gullible Irish to pay interest on debts we haven’t a hope of ever paying back. All this is done because our own gutless politicians have sold us out to these spineless German politicians.  No doubt the German People will wake up one day when the rest of Europe won’t buy any of their products and then the proverbial sh** will hit the fan!

Well enough of politics.

Visiting the town we have this group of travellers with their dinosaur exhibition.  I went along to get a few photos for the kids at home! Judging from their big massive trucks they must be raking the lolly in!

The weather is not doing so well and we are experiencing April showers and some bright sunny spots every now and again but it is cold when the sun is not out. I am told it should start to be a lot warmer in the coming days!

I came across this fabulous jewellery shop in the Hux STR yesterday; do take a look when you visit Lubeck. I guarantee you will get a decent cup of tea and some most unusual silver rings and some extraordinary wooden carvings for your home. The shop is at the lower end of the street  but Hux str is the best street for shopping and it is well worth the visit!

Last evening , I got a real shock .I was invited by my next door neighbour   to a glass of wine  as we discussed the general financial health of Germany I was shocked to hear that he was going to have to pay (wait for it ) “Rain tax” Yes you heard it here first Germany is introducing Rain tax. Households will be charged for the collection of rain water and this must be done by putting in place a collection system for this water that will separate it from the waste water coming from washing machines and toilet and shower waste water. This is apparently a new rule coming from Europe and the Germans public have already accepted that this has to happen. I asked some friends about this and they were not fazed by this new tax.

Last Wednesday I went to my local “cafe Central “for breakfast apart from the charcoaled bacon the breakfast was fine I am able to browse the web with my I- Touch and with an app called “face time” I am if I am lucky call up my daughter Lauren and talk to her for free .But she has to be near a wifi hot spot to receive my call on her I-Touch .

On Monday  I heard over the radio that in one day 11,000 people were to lose their jobs as a large company went into bankruptcy ( A Company called” Schnecker”) also in the news was the constant increases of petrol .Sometimes the price can change two or three times in one day at the petrol stations .The last I saw the price for petrol here was 1.69 – to 1.71  but I have seen it even higher ,again I have asked fiends about this but they just say that is the price they must pay .What a compliant bunch?

Friday afternoon the German Bundesbank  refused to accept Greek, Irish or Portuguese sovereign/bank bonds. This is a severe blow to the Euro zone which will have massive repercussions. I haven’t heard anything in the main media about this development but believe me we are about to see the S*** hit the fan! If you are in Bank stocks get hedged now!

Last Saturday we had a demonstration hear in the town of Lubeck by the local Nazis, apparently it was 70 years ago the RAF bombed the city in preparation of a much bigger attack on Hamburg later on .The Locals seem to want to ignore the Nazis and some of the churches has counter demonstrations arranged .I went into one of the largest churches here called the Marine Church. Seventy years ago the building was badly destroyed and the bell tower was destroyed .One of the bells fell to the ground and it was decided to let it stay where it fell and to this day it still is to be seen where it fell (see photos) This church took 100 years to build in the first place and after the war it took I am told nearly twenty years to rebuild..

The local council are busy getting the town ready for the hordes of tourists that will be coming to Lubeck from May on and I got a taste of what Lubeck is Like when the sun comes out ,believe me it is wonderful ,cafes everywhere and the fabulous old buildings give a medieval feel all around the town. The last few days we had a change in the weather, strong cold winds swept around the town and I had to don my winter coat once again .To-day Monday the 2nd April is a cold day and overcast .

Just listening to the news and we have a scandal of German Finance spies been caught having bribed bank staff in Switzerland .The boys have lodes of data on tax evasion of rich Germans who were trying to hide their millions from the German tax system .I wonder if the Irish government would do something like this to go after the millions that have been hidden by rich Irish developers in Switzerland?  Fat Chance!

More to come in next posting!

Today was a fabulous sunny day in Lubeck and if this is going to be what it is like in the summer month I am going to need a lot of sun cream. I will have to order some more Kilts to ware and get some colour on my legs. All pictures were taken across the road from me .I have bought a collapsible table and chair and I have promised myself to have breakfast some day outside in this park sometime in the coming weeks .I wonder how that will go down with the neighbours???

Up-date from Lubeck

Up-date from Lubeck

The weather is miserable and wet, the post Christmas town is getting back to normal .In the town square there is now an Ice skating ring and it looks like fun to be able to skate so I might just try it this week. To pass the time I am helping a friend renovate his house in the Hux Str .Met a few interesting people in the local Irish Bar “Mac Thomas” on the Untertrave .There seems to be no shortage of business in the town .Some shops are displaying signs for extra help but the pay is desperate in comparison to Irish pay rates average seems to be around 3.75 per hour. You’re not going to get rich on these rates!  Rents are on average between Euro 350 to Euro 750 per month for a nice big house. You will need to take on two to three jobs at that rate! I have an idea of opening an art gallery with exclusive Irish artists.

On the wider national airwaves the German President seems to be in a spot of bother because of gifts from friends and his financial dealings with these friends .This is a big scandal and the political machinery is in full swing to save him and the day. So what’s new we have this kind of thing in Ireland all the time. Taxes are going up and new taxes for ground rents are also on the up. Selling or buying property is also getting fashionable and expect to pay 5 – 6% in commissions to the real-estate agents also you can expect to pay the government about 8% plus the lawyer will want to get his slice of the pie so in all you must always add on approximately 20% of the asking price if you are buying. Prices are on the up as more and more people are taking their money out of German Banks and investing in property.

This is completely new for Germans as most people rent .Young people are also getting into property. As they are increasing becoming aware that they could buy the same property at less cost to themselves for the property they want to rent!

I pay 400 euros per month and in a year I am paying approx 5000 Euro  in ten years I would have paid the price for a decent flat in a good area in the town (approx 50,000Euro or I could come together with some other friend and buy a decent renovated old house in the city centre. In any case Lubeck is open for business and I intend to take advantage !
