festive spirit we certenly have the weather!

What a change in 15 hours we are now totally snowed in here in Wicklow and in the outer estates all you can do is to walk everywhere, forget trying to drive out you will never get back in.

Might as well take down the Christmas decorations and start putting them up and get into the festive spirit !

“Green” light for more Tax hikes ?

A Web posting by Ciaran Cuffe advocating new levy is removed after ‘consultation’ with party

 Shane Coleman and Martin Frawley

A BLOG by Green Party minister Ciaran Cuffe advocating the introduction of a property tax in direct contravention of party policy and the programme for government was removed from the web this weekend.

The planning minister proposed that instead of raising income tax, the government should abolish stamp duty and introduce a property levy. It would mean that houses under 100 square metres (1,076sq ft) could be charged €200, with those over 200sq m (2,153sq ft) paying €600 and a middle rate of €400.

“I’d say such a charge could raise the guts of several hundred million, and would be more equitable than a rise in income tax. The beauty of such a scheme is that it could be implemented quickly without a cumbersome state-led assessment of each property. Another advantage would be that it would allow people to move home when they wish without an excessive tax burden,” he said in his entry to his ‘Cuffe Street’ blog.

 Comment:

I have been saying to expect to get a hefty bill in the form of a property tax after the next budget but Boy, have we been badly stitched up by the greens, here we have another new minster from the greens coming up with their latest bright idea after counting frogs, and bats and stealth taxes call carbon taxes, car taxes ,and 15 cent on every litre of petrol and I am sure there is more to come

This guy comes up with this new tax .Well he can take a running jump we are getting a sneak preview of what these green addicts of power are prepared to do to stay in power serving their masters Fianna Fail they have completely destroyed any hope of the greens ever getting back into power that’s for sure

How a group of people could totally ditch their principals for the sake of staying in power is beyond me !

Wicklow Town Cinema

At the last local elections in Wicklow some of the now elected councillors promised to do something about the derelict cinema building

I suppose those promises were just that, empty promises that were easily forgotten along with all the rest of them!

That’s what you get when you don’t vote for change!

It is quite shocking to hear we had two cinemas in Wicklow Town in the 1920,s

With 2,650 thousand people out of work in the town why it is not possible to re-open this building as a centre for the self help groups for the unemployed and as a centre of community activity

More and more shops are closing and new ones are not lasting because of the unrealistic overheads

Water charges, rates, rents and insurances

I suggest the county counsel should introduce a municipal insurance

An insurance that all the retailers and trades people pay into and the premium should be paid directly to Lloyds of London cutting out the middle man

This insurance should include public labiality and would reduce the costs enormously

Why the hell not???

This kind of innovative thinking is required if we want to get the town back on its feet again

My thanks to all who drop by on a Daly basis , contribute and encourage me .Independent news and opinions  are a vital ingredient of Democracy ,and we must guard these fundamental rights we all have .

We also have the right to call to account those that are put in places of power be it local or national

remember we the people are the paymasters and they are supposed to be working for US the general public .We must get used to asking the real questions .for example Wicklow Town has now approx 2000 unemployed ,so what have the Local elected TD’s done to get even one person a job

What new funds or what job creation measures have been provided in the last 17 months

I can answer you NONE!

Don’t promise you votes to someone just because there a nice Man/Woman

We need new faces and new ideas; nothing will change if the same old policies are kept

We need Action on Jobs and not hot air and empty promises

Billions have been squandered in toxic Banks (NAMA)

Jobs have been created for top managers, accountants and solicitors (people in the right circles)

The rest of us are dumped and forgotten!

Closure of libraries in two schools in Co. Wicklow

Labour TD Liz McManus,

has warned of the serious affects that the closure of libraries in two schools in Co. Wicklow may have.

The two schools that are under threat of having their libraries closed down by the Government are St. Kilian’s Community College in Bray and the Abbey Community College in Wicklow Town.

“I am deeply shocked at the news that the libraries in these two schools

will have to close because of the moratorium on recruiting librarians”,

said Deputy Liz McManus. “The Demonstration Library Projects were set up

in 22 schools around the country to ensure that young people are able to

read and to encourage a love of reading. They provide students with a

welcoming and safe environment where they can read, do homework, or prepare

for exams.

“An estimated €9m was spent on building and stocking these libraries and I

understand that €1m would keep the service going. This is a modest amount

of money for a significant return. These libraries operate in schools that

are located in disadvantaged areas and are specifically aimed at students

who are the most likely to leave school without formal education.

“The school library service has been tried and trust and has delivered for

many young people. Now it is being destroyed by this Fianna Fail

Government who are hell bent in creating economic havoc. They expect us to

shore up the banks while at the same time they are undermining the

potential of our young students attending 2nd-level schools.

“I am calling on Dick Roche as the only Government Minister in Co. Wicklow

to condemn this measure. It is quite clear that where there is strong

opposition in Fianna Fail that they are able to alter Government policy.

While Fianna Fail Deputies are arguing about stag hunting, there isn’t a

whimper about the loss of library services. It is time to stand up and be

counted. Pulling the plug at this stage is tantamount to educational

vandalism”, concluded Deputy McManus.

… ends …

New unemployment stats

Dr. Constantin Gurdgiev

Has wrote an excellent report on the latest unemployment statistics which clearly shows the Governments figures and expectations to be flawed to say the least

Take a look see! Link http://www.trueeconomics.blogspot.com/

The number of people signing on to the Live Register rose by 6,600 in May, the Central Statistics Office said, with the unemployment rate rising to 13.7 per cent.

The latest increase brings the seasonally adjusted total number of people receiving unemployment benefits to 439,100. The Live Register includes people who work part-time, and seasonal and casual workers entitled to Jobseekers Allowance or Jobseekers Benefit.

Observation Constantin!

There are approx 45,000 to 65,000 previously self employed, that are now unemployed but do not receive any unemployment benefits.

As far as I know only those that are in receipt of benefits are classified as unemployed, and thus these people do not appear to be included in the statistics.
