You have a mathematical formula which any primary school child would refuse to present to teacher. The child would be horrified by the mountain if Irish dead pensioners visible to all but you and the Minister for “Social Protection”.The child would realise that 2,000 dead pensioners cannot be omitted from any mathematical or moral calculations.Yet you and your Minister have omitted the 2,000 deaths of pensioners in 2010?You have no response to the report by Age Action Ireland that 2,000 extra pensioners died in 2010.The Minister for Social protection has no response to the report of 2,000 extra pensioners deaths in 2010.Your zombie like response that the Troika ( monster?) has imposed the cuts on little Ms Burton and that she has no choice but to ignore 2,000 dead pensioners in 2010 and accept that more than 2,000 pensioners will die in 2011 from the cold seeping into their homes. If a fraction of 2,000 Irish people were threatened by flood waters seeping into their homes  there would be a national emergency.

What is the criteria for a national emergency? Publicity? Votes for Fine Gael/labour Parties, superficiality such as displayed towards the “Talk, Talk” workers by this little Ms Burton … who will give assistance. That is the unemployed workers will not be refused their entitlements when they turn up at the dole offices. How kind of little Ms Burton.

Cuts to fuel and lighting allowances

from the excellent new blog dandahan please do visit

A Reduction from 2,400 free units to 1,800 free units is presented by the Department as an act of kindness. The existing economic situation demands that the Troika be obeyed.

No acknowledgement of the 2,000 excess deaths from lack of heat in pensioners homes last year,2010.

Unfortunately the Troika must be obeyed in 2011 at the cost of increasing the number from  2,000 deaths to a new high this winter, due to  lack of heat in the poorest pensioners homes.

What is striking in this response from Minister Burton’s desk is the total lack of any sense of humanity. There is no concern for Irish people dying from the cold. That avoidable tragedy is brushed over and only the economic imperative is acknowledged by the Irish citizen advisers and the Minister cosseted by that bulging purse of Euro 4,000 per week and perks and pensions which ensures a warm glow to their nether regions as others die from the winter cold.

There is no Troika pressure to return any of that Euro 4,000 which the good Minister and her excellent , moral, ethical and humane fellow Ministers each place into their bank accounts every week.

The means tested pensioner shivering in their homes are paid Euro 200 per week.

And the Government pour Euro billions into bailing out developers , banks and cronies.

Such exploitative behaviours must reap the whirlwind of retribution.

Cuts to fuel and lighting allowances and related deaths

To Press Office , Department of Social protection

Dear Niamh,

Please forward the Departments explanation for the cuts to means tested pensioners’ fuel and lighting allowances for the winter of 2011.Your knowledge of 2,000 deaths of pensioners in 2010 from cold related illness  and the huge rises in fuel and lighting costs for 2011 might require some explaining? How does the Minister Ms Burton justify cutting the poorest pensioners fuel and lighting allowances when she has full knowledge of these statistics of 2,000 deaths over and above the statistically expected deaths?

Refer to Age Action Ireland  for confirmation of these 2,000 extra deaths from cold in 2010.The Department must be aware that the death toll will rise even further in 2011 with such savage increases in fuel costs coupled with Ms Burtons attack on the paltry fuel allowances of means tested pensioners?Given that the Minister and the Department advisers are aware how do they justify such deliberate carnage?

Your response / non response shall be published.

Yours Sincerely

The Irish democratic system

This article was sent into me  this morning

by Donal Buckley.

My theory is that we have the means , the Irish democratic system,  has been hijacked by the current power elites. These elites have become corrupted ( absolute power over decades etc). We have been educated away from doffing the cap etc.‘Problem I identify is that there are so many groups and individuals who desperately want to act but cannot see viable options. Therefore they opt to go it alone. But to where? How?

The mechanism for democracy is there we must claim it by using it .This democratic machine has been lying idle for decades. No one has ever tried to restore it. There is little or no local democracy .County councillors are over- paid and afraid of county officials who control by how much and when. These E 68,000 per annum bods will not represent your views to the council unless it is harmless, non confrontational. The elected TDs ditto, just Party cannon fodder, moved like chess pieces by the Party hierarchy. Dumb, blind and deaf to the needs of the electorate who put them there to represent the people.

The answer is local agitation, correspondence and civil demonstrations, confront these idiots and coerce them into democratic representation. Check up on any claims they make of representation, activity etc.‘Same at national level, a recent example is Denis Naughton and local interest groups and Roscommon Hospital demonstrations. The Dail whip system and the Ceann Comhairle are obstacles to representation by TDs and democracy  within the Dail. Are TDs elected to serve the electorate or to serve the Party? There are examples of this interest group representation working. To-day Phil Hogan has climbed down in the face of IFA representations on septic tank charges.Legal profession, Medical profession, teachers and academics, vets and accountants etc are all adept at using the lobby system which is democracy at work.Of course the public service and trade unions are experts … having direct access to decision makers.

It goes on,and on .

Roscommon Hospital safety issues

By Donal Buckley

Has HIQA made reports on the safety issues in Roscommon Hospital? The Government have promised to maintain services therefore if there are safety issues the Government are required to act to make Roscommon hospital safe.Reducing services is going to increase patient care in the area? How is this possible … less services to the sick citizens of Ireland is better for their health? Paying the bankers debts with borrowed money taken from citizens  is corruption of the democratic practices.Paying bankers debts with the lives of fellow citizens by starving our hospitals of proper funding and services is a criminal act.No citizen of Ireland voted for this betrayal of our human rights.

The Fine Gael and Labour Party Gravy train has arrived at Dail Eireann.

By Donal Buckley

Freelance Journalist/Writer:

After a 30 year trip through the political wilderness (there were a few brief stops along the way) the 2011 Irish Government gravy train is now disembarking at Government Buildings.

Favours and kick backs have to be honoured by the sack full.

TDs are employing wives, brothers in law and nephews to work for them at the expense of all  citizen in this little country.

Ministers and junior ministers add two drivers each to this employment drive.

The Taoiseach requires four advisors at a cost of Euro 170,000 each per annum (plus perks).

There are thousands of citizens who are well qualified to advise the Taoiseach and the others in need of advice.

Mr Kenny only has to walk down the street and the dogs in the street know the solutions to many of our problems in this Ireland of the cute  w***e in 2011.

The advisors  can be found down at the dole office queuing for Euro180 or less per week.

Advisors can be employed for the average industrial wage immediately.

There are volunteers by the truck load who will offer to advise on an intern basis.

There is a Department overflowing with civil servants paid to advise the Government.

Is that a total of Euros 680,000 for four advisors per year and then the chauffeur driven limo at an annual cost of Euro 250,000.

This is borrowed money which Mr Kenny is lashing out to all his associates.

Borrowed money which we have to repay from ever reducing  resources , from private households, from carers, from the sick, the old, the weak and from our children.

The money squandered by Mr Kenny, Gilmore and co is our money, the citizens’ money and these people  in Government think they can splurge with impunity on their cronies, their families, brothers in law and nephews.

They require two drivers to get to work. Fine then let them pay for the drivers out of their own private funds.

The list is endless, it is difficult to quantify but the way in which these jobs are given out as favours or to family members is   corruption of the political system as it is meant to be.

Mr Kenny’s own rhetoric  decried this sort of cronyism and dishonesty during his election campaign.

Now that Mr Kenny is Taoiseach he regards the tax payers money as his own personal bank account to dish out to his Fine Gael cronies.

His rhetoric flowed like honey but the Government behaviour in its first 100 days in office is not sweet smelling.

Lest we forget there are over 446,000 registered unemployed , ( add 50,000 plus self employed who do not qualify but are out of work for years now) and no equal opportunity advertising of these jobs for the boys (and girls).

There must be at least 1000(conservative estimate) new jobs involved in this carve up.

Nowhere has the Government announced the creation of over 1000 vacancies in Government Buildings.

No pronouncements on equal opportunities for all citizens, especially for those on the dole queues and over qualified for each and every job in Dail Eireann.

Take an example of one unemployed secretary with a family of four, paid a pittance by the Social welfare because the other partner is earning some income.

There are 165(+) secretarial jobs now being filled in Dail Eireann at an average wage of  Euro 42000 per annum.

TDs with their bloated salaries are permitted to block the recruitment of such an unemployed person and instead give his/her own family the extra Euro 42,000.

Mr Kenny TD, Taoiseach, come out from under whatever  hideaway  you have found and please explain.
