The head of Syria‘s military police has defected from the army and declared allegiance to the uprising against the president, Bashar al-Assad, according to a video and a Syrian security source.
The news came as government shelling in the northern province of Raqqa killed about 20 people, at least eight of them children, according to a video posted by activists on Wednesday.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published a video showing rows of the blood-stained bodies laid out on blankets. The sound of crying relatives could be heard in the background.
The shelling hit the province’s al-Qahtania village, but it was unclear when the attack happened.
The high-level defection, while not a strategically significant development in the 21-month-old conflict, will be a blow to morale for Assad’s forces, which are hitting back at a string of rebel advances….

This Henchman should face the Gallows as over 40,000 people have now lost their lives as this criminal stood by and allowed the murder of these people an international tribunal should be set up to investigate all acts of genocide carried out by the thugs in Damascus. Rats leaving the sinking ship spring to mind as I read this article! Still this could be yet another nail in the coffin of |Assad and his henchmen!
More than 200 men, women and children appear to have been killed in this latest atrocity. Everything we have seen of the Syrian regime’s behaviour over the last seventeen months suggests that these reports are credible. They demand a united response from the international community.
We have two urgent priorities – to establish an accurate account of what happened in Tremseh so that those responsible can and will be held to account; and to agree urgent action at the United Nations Security Council.
To that end, the UN mission in Syria must be able to access Tremseh quickly and without hindrance so they can carry out an independent investigation into what has happened and who is responsible.
And we will redouble our efforts to agree a Chapter VII resolution of the UN security council. This would compel the Syrian regime to fulfil the commitments it has made under the Annan plan, to withdraw its military from residential areas, and establish a transitional government as called for by Kofi Annan and endorsed by the P5 and Arab League. It should be a legally binding security council resolution with teeth, that creates a trigger for sanctions if the Assad regime does not comply. British diplomats in New York will continue negotiations on a resolution at the security council today:

This butchery must stop and the UN should now just move in and restore order and the criminals who are responsible for these murders must be brought to justice ASAP.
The world stands condemned for standing by and allowing this genocide to continue !
Let’s not forget the brave men and woman fighting and dying for the right to live in freedom in Syria. Weeks ago a little girl was brutally murdered by the forces of the Assad regime these murdering thugs must be brought to the international court of justice or Assad and his henchmen will get to know to the people’s justice just like Gaddafi did.

Homs has been a centre of unrest since the onset of protests against President Bashar al-Assad in February. The Free Syrian Army, a nascent rebel movement comprised largely of defectors from the security forces, has units operating inside the city.
A pipeline leading to a vital oil refinery in Homs was destroyed on Thursday. The Syrian National Council (SNC), an alliance of parties opposed to Mr Assad, accused the regime of using this incident as a pretext for an offensive.
“The regime is paving the way to commit a massacre in order to extinguish the revolution in Homs,” said a statement from the SNC. With 1.6m people, Homs is divided between Syria’s main religious groups.
The authorities have “tried hard to ignite the sectarian conflict using many dirty methods, which have included bombing and burning mosques, torturing and killing young men, and kidnapping women and children,” added the SNC statement.

Its time for all decent people of the world to stand up with the people of Syria we in the west must now demand of our political leaders to take action and stop this blood thirsty tyrant murdering his own people .Democracy is a human right and not something that some despot dictator can withdraw whenever he feels like it.
If you don’t do something to day you are allowing this despot to continue to butcher his own people .write to your local TD and demand that the Irish government call on the UN to intervene military if necessary people are dying. This mass murderer must be brought to justice one way or another!
Freedom fro the peoples of Syria
