Vatican intransigence

VATICAN OBSERVERS
last night speculated that Pope Benedict’s decision not to accept the resignations of Dublin auxiliary bishops Eamonn Walsh and Ray Field is an indication of a Holy See “Maginot Line” on the question of episcopal resignations in light of the clerical sex abuse scandals.
For months now, Vatican commentators have argued that the delay in accepting resignations originally tendered last Christmas indicated a reluctance to see more heads roll.
This reluctance is at least twofold. First, there is nothing the Holy See would like less than to be seen to be dismissing bishops, solely in response to pressure from the media and public opinion. Secondly, senior Vatican figures are concerned about a possible “domino effect” for the Irish hierarchy. In other words, there may still be many Irish bishops with “mishandling/bureaucratic”, sex abuse skeletons still in the cupboard who would also have to resign.
To a certain extent, say observers, the Vatican has opted to differentiate between sins of omission and sins of commission in relation to the clerical sex abuse scandal.

Comment
I believe the pope is worried that a precedent would be set by the faithful having a say in who is to be a bishop and even maybe have a say in other areas of the church
This is unpalatable for an organization that has deemed itself un…answerable to anyone on earth
The church is in fact a business and the shareholders (us) are only paid a dividend after we die (so were promised )
What a fantastic scam and the envy of all other business on the planet
This latest development is yet another slap across the face of victims who are told in no uncertain terms where their place is in the pecking order of the Vatican’s concerns, namely at the bottom!

we need reform now!

The current Irish Government are responsible for the financial disaster the country is in,
With the establishment of NAMA the Government is trying to socialize the enormous losses that the Banks and their Developer buddies have encored.
Corruption is rife and now a new monster burocratic system is being created, where X politicians will have jobs for life and the same corrupt developers will be able to manipulate the housing market all over again
While the people are being robbed of their homes, savings, pensions, and education for their children, that same gangsters are running the country
This has to stop!
Join the CAB to-day and get things moving
Come on! Get active in your own area now!
We as a country need new faces and not the same old tired faces that have being around using the system to suite themselves.

[Brady should ‘consider position’]

Brady should ‘consider position’ over abuse priest case

The head of Ireland’s Catholic Church “should consider his position”, Martin McGuinness has said.

As a priest in 1975 Cardinal Sean Brady was at meetings where children signed vows of silence over complaints against paedophile priest Fr Brendan Smyth.

The Northern Ireland deputy first minister questioned how many other children were asked to stay silent.

He said many Catholics shared his “great sense of unease at what we’ve learned over the last couple of days”.

Green Party leader John Gormley said Cardinal Brady should examine his conscience, describing it as “a case of evil triumphing while a good man stood back from a situation”.

The Irish environment minister said it was “a deeply regrettable situation”.

“I suppose it is a matter for the Church authorities themselves and Cardinal Brady and his own conscience. He will have to deal with that,” he said.

Mr Gormley said it was very clear none of those involved in the inquiry had reported matters to police and an “evil character” like Smyth was able to continue his abuse for many years.

Smyth was at the centre of one of the first paedophile priest scandals to rock the Catholic Church in Ireland.

The Northern Ireland-born cleric was eventually convicted of dozens of offences against children over a 40-year period.

But despite allegations being previously investigated by church officials, including the current Irish primate, Sean Brady, as far back as 1975, it was almost 20 years before he was jailed.

On Tuesday, the Catholic Church in Ireland released more details about why Cardinal Brady asked the two victims, aged 10 and 14, to sign secrecy agreements.
